Private Herding Lessons

We offer limited, personalized training for you and your dog on sheep, goats, cattle, and/or ducks Monday through Friday. First, we evaluate your dog's interest in herding, then guide you both in a supportive setting to achieve your long-term goals. Together, we’ll enhance your bond and unlock your dog’s herding potential.

Private lessons are best for owners who want to learn to handle their own dog and build real working skills over time.

Lesson Rate:
$100 per hour/dog
Lessons are scheduled by appointment, Monday–Friday

Not sure if private lessons are the right starting point? You’re welcome to book an evaluation session.

Our herding lessons are designed to build confident, thoughtful stockdogs and capable handlers through clear communication, good stockmanship, and real-world application. Whether you’re just starting a young dog or refining skills for practical farm work, lessons are tailored to meet you and your dog where you are.

Each session focuses on:

  • Reading livestock and understanding pressure

  • Calm, controlled movement of stock

  • Timing, positioning, and handler awareness

  • Building balance, trust, and responsiveness

We work with sheep and cattle in a safe, structured environment that prioritizes livestock welfare and sets dogs up for success. Lessons emphasize practical herding—skills you can take home and use—rather than shortcuts or force.

Handlers of all experience levels are welcome. You’ll learn why techniques work, not just what to do, so you leave with a clearer understanding of stock, dogs, and your role in the partnership.

Private lessons are available by appointment and are suitable for:

  • Young dogs being introduced to livestock

  • Dogs with natural ability needing guidance and structure

  • Farm and ranch dogs working toward real utility

  • Handlers wanting to improve confidence and stock sense

Good dogs aren’t rushed — they’re built.

Private lessons may NOT be a good fit if:

  • You want your dog trained without your involvement

  • You’re looking for quick results or shortcuts

  • You don’t plan to continue practicing between sessions
